Serena Williams: What was THAT outfit???

Okay, so to a match in the US Open, Serena Williams wore those shiny black shoe covers that went up to her knees to look like knee-high boots. Along with the "booties" she wore a denim skirt with little metal studs all over it, a tank top, and dangly earrings.

On one hand I commend her for the bravery she has & her ability to express her individuality. On the other hand, bad fashion is just bad fashion.

I myself have been the victim of my own poor fashion sense & I look back on it & dont really know what I was thinking at the time.

But Serena--really--we're fans because we want to see you play tennis. We arent checking out your attire. In fact, choices like that are distracting from your game. I spent more time trying to figure out your outfit than I did admiring your ability to play a tennis match.
You're at a 10; I need you at a 2.

What exactly IS an "enchanada"??

It's on the menu today for lunch. What is it???
Anyone,feel free to answer.

Faking It: Vegas Show Girl!

Okay, If I could go on that show "Faking It", I would try to fake being a Vegas Show Girl. Now, I wouldnt be one of those that goes topless. My husband tells me that there are shows where the girls are not topless. See, I wouldnt know because I've never been to Vegas. But, I think that I could pull it off--so long as there is not a height requirement. If they dont ever have shorties up there, then I wouldnt be able to pull the wool over anybody's eyes.

Okay, that's my secret confession of the day.

Why I dont read the news...

So, yesterday I went to the CNN website. I dont think I'll ever go back.

First, I read about the man decapitated in Marrietta, Georgia. Saw it again on the news last night.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/South/08/30/man.decapitated.ap/index.html

Then, I read about a family in the Phillipines who murdered a man, cooked him, and served him as part of the meal at a wedding reception. So, here all these guests are dancing, drinking, having a good time...and eating a human being. Those poor guests. They didnt know! I will never eat another thing at another wedding as long as I live.
Ever.

Okay, so far, that is all that was just burning to get out.
I missed blogging so much yesterday!

God on Womanhood.

"When I made the woman she had to be special. I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort. I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children. I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining. I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly. I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart. I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly. And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed." "You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."

Okay, so I read this in an email. Love it. Love it. Love it.

Costa Rica bound!....oh wait, I'm not going!

Damon & Dad are planning a trip to Costa Rica.
Have to admit...I'm a little jealous! I enjoyed Costa Rica. I enjoyed lounging by the pool with Damon bringing me the drink of the hour!

ALL A GIRL WANTS IS AN UMBRELLA IN HER DRINK WHILE LOUNGING IN THE SUN WITH THE SOUND OF THE OCEAN WAVES ROCKING HER TO SLEEP! Is that really too much to ask for???

No--they are hopefully going to San Jose soon. Dad's got the vacation time & Damon is just itching to go somewhere. I think they'll have a good time. Sadly--I cant afford to take the time away from work. Got to save that PTO for the holidays. We may get to go snowboarding...so we'll see...

To do...To get...

So, we're redoing the house...
I still want to get...
Hippo steps (overstock.com Item#925052)
Porch Swing (white one!)
Backyard statue (krupps.com Item#ORF7778)

We still need to...
oh, this list could go on & on...so I'll just post the projects that I'm thinking about now.

Clean out shed
Organize lawn tools
Create the front flowerbed we've been discussing
hang swing
lay the hippo steps
plant more rose bushes by the two I already have
clean out ledge planter
plant flowers in that
I'd love to paint the house white/off white & trim in black.
lay more sod. (I think what we've laid is really taking off!)
trim more trees (hire someone!)

Okay...I'm done thinking about all this. My brain is tired!!!!!!!! It's all never-ending!

Capital Punishment...Manson Murders.

So, I was reading an article about one of the Manson followers, Van Hooten. At the age of 19 she was involved in the LaBianca murders. She's been in prison ever since.

Where I'm going with this: she was initially convicted & sentenced to death. Then, her sentence was converted to life in prison with the possibility of paroll when the Supreme Court banned capital punishment. Well, now that capital punishment is legal again--why werent all the sentences that were converted to life converted back to death?

I'm just wondering. I dont want anyone to hop on & argue the morality of capital punishment with me. I am not expressing an opinion for or against it. I just was wondering why they werent changed back....

So anyway--Van Hooten came up for paroll & was denied again for the 15th time. She will be eligible again in 2006.

Vanilla Frappacino from Starbucks...

As a rule, I have not really been a Starbucks fan b/c I always thought that their coffee was too strong.

Well, last winter I discovered the Gingerbread Latte. Fabulous.

Just when I thought that I could never find a caffeinated beverage that would top the Gingerbread Latte...I tried a Vanilla Frappacino. I have no idea if I am spelling it correctly....but I dont really care. I dont have to write down my order @ Starbucks--and even if I did, I would just write "Vanilla Frap" & leave it at that.

So anyway--back to this wonderful drink... It just might be one of the best drinks to ever cross these lips. I like it, I love it, I want some more of it!!!!!!!!!

We're all guilty of it in some way....
Just something I'm chewing on today.

So...we're not pregnant.

Or, I should say, I'm not pregnant. For some reason the phrase has evolved from "I" to "We", which I guess is nice b/c it includes the men a little more...but specifically, I still mean that I am not pregnant.

We had our first pregnancy test last night. How is it that 3 minutes can feel soooooo long?

Were we planning to be pregnant? Not really. We werent/arent really doing anything to prevent it though. We just are not actively trying to conceive.

But--we were both a little disappointed last night when it came back negative.

It made me think back to those commercials a few years ago...they were for some home pregnancy test & you see the couple, and she comes out of the bathroom...and they wait....& then they get the results. Now just thinking about those commercials makes me tear up!!! Oh, how exciting...and how sad....

We werent crying or anything--it's not like we've been trying & trying... But I admit it was a bit disappointing. That's really the only word for it.

But, our time will come when God is ready for us to have a baby.
:)

That's all for now...

Clocking in...

Okay, so yesterday I had to clock in for the first time @ this job. I am proud to report, that I was on time. I have never been known as "Miss Punctuality", so I am pretty proud of myself.

And yet, being on time, talking to my dad, and my newly mulched flower beds were the only bright spots in my day yesterday. Yesterday sucked.

Today--well, today is going to be better!

I was on time again today. I would have been early yesterday if it had not been for those kids in the school crosswalk. Dont they know that I need to clock in?? Who do they think they are???
LOL. I'm totally kidding.

What else...yesterday I dropped the corner of a chart on the top of my foot. The good news is that my foot is not broken. The bad news is that it hurts like it is broken.

What else??? Well, it's early in the day...so I really dont have much to report.

Signing off!!!

Alpacas.

So, Damon & I have been talking about investing some of our $$. I immediately thought of Alpacas.

*******scratch*******

Seriously--this commercial? Are you kidding??? Do people really "invest" in Alpaca's?
I laugh every time I hear that commercial come on.

Concrete....

Okay...so I was thinking about getting this....
it's a concrete & barbed wire bra @ www.kemalexander.com

Okay not really....

But come on...a concrete & barb-wire bra.
this is art?

Seriously--I must be insane to just continue working full time when apparently I could make a fortune if I started working with concrete. :)

I dont know...sometimes I just dont get it. I went to MOMA & while I find a lot of it very, very, cool....it all seems very, very, stupid or at the very least--very, very, easy.
A bench--is it art, or is it a place to sit.
Wadded up notebook paper...do I throw it away, or stand there & gaze at its beauty?? I must have looked like an idiot in there.

That's all for now.

Bob Costa....just a question...

Just a question...
What's up with Bob Costa's bangs? Seriously...what is that about?
I'm absolutely baffled.

It's Friday!

Oh, it's Friday...thank goodness.
I was home sick yesterday. I still dont feel very well today, but I'm here. Got to save that PTO for the holidays.

Dad flew into town yesterday afternoon. Didnt get to see him yet, but hopefully I'll see him tonight & he'll get to look at our new house.

Random thought: I dont think my punctuation & grammar & spelling are always correct--so I hope no English teachers read this...

It's Friday. That's good. No work tomorrow or Sunday, yippy!!!

The Home Front...

Okay, so we got our new house. New to us...built in '49. So much to do, so much to do.

Last weekend, my mom helped me with the bathroom. Damon went to a work weekend thing, and she came to town to help me. We redid the bathroom. Sort of... see, right now we have pink tile on the floor & up the wall to about 4.5 feet. So, I decided that since I have to live with it for a while (the budget just is not allowing for immediate installation of the granite tile I want) that it might as well look good. Damon stripped the wallpaper off the wall before he left. He didnt know that the new bathroom would be his surprise. We painted the walls & this one oak-toned cabinet a dark, dark, chocolate brown. It looks FABULOUS if I do say so myself. (and....I do!) I got some brown towels for Damon to use. he hasnt yet mastered the concept of keeping white towels white. The other towels I got for the bathroom are white with pink dragonflies embroidered on them. Oh, they are just perfect. We added a brown shower curtain with new rings. We installed a hotel-like chrome towel rack, my retractable mirror, and a new hand-towel ring. Oh, and hardware: door & drawer pulls. Looks fabulous! We already had the chrome heated towel warmer & super huge shower head (thanks to Damon). It all looks sooooo nice. So--we still need light fixtures. After the light fixtures are replaced, I'd say I can live with it for at least 2 years!

What I would really like to see in our bathroom: the kohler sink & mirror set, granite tile. Other than that, I would leave everything else alone!

We've still got sooooo much work ahead of us though.....

Testing 1-2-3....Ready on the Mic...

Okay, so this is my first Blog. I heard about them on the news a while back, but never thought much more about the topic.

Ginger Dean recently emailed me & told me to check out her blog with pix of her new classroom. Done. How cool is this??? So--she's turning her mom into a tecn0-geek, and I guess she has rubbed off on me as well!

Let's see....what do I want to write about today????

What's going on in the world....the Olympics. Let's talk about that swimmer, Phelps. Could his little swimmer pants dip any lower? I'd love to see what the Church Lady has to say about that...."who could have told him to wear those pants make all the little ladies have impure thoughts about the 'lympics??? who could it be??? Could it be Satan????" tee hee hee heeeeee....

Ummm...right now I have a stye on my eye. It sucks. It hurts every time I close my eye. And--so I went to the pharmacy & bought this product called "Stye". I get it home--go to put it on my eye--& the first line of the label reads: This is not a medicine. WTF? Why the hell was it on the eye medicine aisle? I bought a non-medicine medicine. The product is made of petroleum jelly & mineral oil. It's a lubricant. And I am thinking---why? So I won't get a stretch mark right there on my bottom eyelid? And, when you get this product in your eye--it blurs your vision. It says right there on the package--"Do not put this product in your eye." So--I bought a non-medicine eye irritant that lubricates the area around your eye. Again--I reiterate--WTF? I just want my stye to go away!!!
.....where's my magic wand when I need it????

Melissa is still in St.Louis. I think today is the first day of her new job. I hope it's just great!! And, I hope she gets to transfer to Buffalo Creek & I hope they will pay her tons & tons of money & require her to do very little work & she'll be here in Texas near me!!!

Allen is starting 2nd grade today. I hope that's going well. I always loved the first day of school!!!

Megan's here in Dallas....havent talked to her in a while. I need to check in on her & get an update on her life.

Susan is at Children's now as a resident. Got a dog. Cant wait to meet him!!!!

Okay, I am signing off.
