Pity Party

...and on Wednesday afternoon, just when I thought all of the invited guests to my pity part had arrived...
who shows up?
The IRS.
Who invited the IRS?
Nobody, that's who.

The good news: they didn't show up in person!
The bad news: on top of my DRAINING day, the IRS notifies us by mail that we are being audited. Our 2004 taxes are being audited.

You officially have 10 days to yada, yada, yada (read: find your old taxes, look over them again, freak out, tell everyone you know, freak out some more, and contact the CPA who prepared them for you.)

My pity party just got a little bit bigger.
"Hey, IRS, Happy Freakin' Almost Birthday to me! You suck."

We don't have anything to hide...it's just nerve-racking. And time consuming.
And, it's the FREAKIN' IRS!!!!
Somehow, they don't seem like normal people. They seem like...non-human, number machines!

You poor thing. Let the CPA take care of most of it since s/he's the one who took care of the taxes.

Good luck!

Scary! And I thought getting a jury duty summons was an exciting thing to happen (although I must point out, having a baby at home gets you out of jury duty- yeah, baby!)

Ah poor you, that brought back memories for me. Since moving to England I havent had to go through this and I DO NOT MISS IT! Anyway I am sending you some luck...here it it.... and telling you that they will find out they owe you a refund ('cos they are idiots and so is your CPA who should have kept copies of everything!)

I'll be praying that they let you out of prison as fast as they did Paris. I'm sure they have internet access in prison. So keep us updated.

Now that is some scary shit. I hope everything turns out okay.

Yikes! Even when you honest as clean sheets any government person with a calculator is terrifying. Yes I agree with shauna, call the CPA then sit down and have a cup of tea.

A pity party is a necessity now and again, but pick yourself back up eh? Perhaps Oceans 13? That will do it!

My deepest sympathies.
Revenue Canada (IRS equivalent) once decided to audit one of my kids. His rent receipts for university weren't completed properly!
Got me thinking - "Why don't you pick on someone with the big bucks?"

Gah.

For what its worth... My sister and her hubby got audited. Turns out there was a mistake on their taxes. And they got back EVEN more than originally thought.

Hope all goes well.

I try to be perfect on my taxes, too ... but I would frrrreak out!

I'm thinking good thoughts and sending positive IRS karma your way!

I'd totally let my accountant handle it... since he does my taxes.... :-/

Oh no! I hope they don't turn it into a long, drawn-out thing. That's the least they can do since it's almost your birthday!
