Life Is Just So Daily

Saturday, the 3rd of July.

...has it been a week already????

Saturday, 7/3 was quite a day.
It all started with the annual golf cart parade that we've been attending since Gage was a wee-lad {only 10 months old} and we continue to do it every year.

This year, with all the rain, it was a lot shorter than normal, but no less patriotic!

Pics from the parade....

Before we ever even left the house to head to the parade, Gage was wanting his Easter basket or his Halloween bucket to collect candy.
Well---goodness knows where the Halloween bucket is {we HAVE moved since then!} and the Easter stuff is in the attic. So, I found this little navy jersey draw-string bag that Gage's sheets came in. He was sooooo in luck this year that there weren't THAT MANY participants, but there was still the same amount of candy. That child loaded up on candy.

After that? Why....we were off to the Bass Pro Shop, of course.
{Fo' Real, Yo. Just call that my home-away-from-home. I swear we spend way too much time & $$ there! But I love, love, love that place!}

Gage got his very first fishing pole.... {It's Transformers...}

We all got fishing gear. Then we ate there at the restaurant....the fish & chips were delicious!

After that, we headed back to the marina to wait out the rain that started sprinkling down.... That's where Gage practiced his casting skills...

...and I snapped my current FAVORITE Summer pic of my child!

{can't you just smell the fresh air, the water, the sunscreen, and feel the excitement of Summer?}

Then we were off & fishing as soon as the rain cleared up. Boy did it!

After that, we went & picked up Gage's cousin, Forrest.
Oh, Gage LOVES him.
And there was some tubing....

...until a storm blew in. We retreated to Memaw's house to wait out the storm. When it passed, we brought a whole crew down to the lake with us: Hubby, Gage, me, Hubby's sister, her husband, 3 of their kids....
It was great.
There was more tubing and finally we stopped near the stage where JOAN JETT WAS SINGING; HELLO! IT'S A CONCERT! We were in the water & the stage was on land. We enjoyed hearing the hits {not so much the other songs that I've never heard before...} and of course, Gage fell asleep...he was so sleepy in this next picture...

And then the fireworks! Oh my, oh my! The fireworks! Gage woke up for the fireworks, but watched them from his comfy-laid-back position. Right there over the lake, it was like the were doing the fireworks show just for us. It was amazing!

Of course, it was after midnight when we got home, and Gage wanted to take a bath before getting into his clean sheets....so this little sleepy boy didn't get into bed until after 1am!

In the end---a WONDERFUL day was had by all.

Feels Like Home

Somethin' in your eyes, makes me wanna lose myself
Makes me wanna lose myself, in your arms
There's somethin' in your voice, makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts, the rest of my life

I walk through the door...and it's night. I've just come home from school, and you should be sleeping, but from the back of the house I hear you call "MOMMEEEEEEEEEE!"
I am so lucky.

You run & jump into my arms, and I get the biggest hug. You talk 90 miles an hour to tell me about a new computer game, and school, and M, and the list goes on and on. And you ask me, "How was your day?"
How was my day?
You're my son, and I am so lucky.

And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you've done

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

I change into my jammies & climb into bed. You've already received permission to bunk with us tonight. It's right where you belong. We whisper in bed....still talking about our day...and you fall asleep holding my hand.
As I bring your hand to my lips to kiss it, I smell cookies.
Your hands smell like Nilla Wafer cookies.
Your head smells like little boy, and your hands smell like cookies.
I get to be your mom, and I am so lucky.

Well, if you knew how much this moment means to me
And how long I've waited for your touch
And if you knew how happy you are making me
I never thought that I'd love anyone so much

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

Oh, Sweet Boy...I love you more than you'll ever know.

Today's Post: Country Music.

So, today, being a good little Southern girl, I've decided to post about country music.

I listen to mountry music, among other things (lots of other things!)...
...but, as I was driving in to work this morning....I switched through 2 different stations, and just had to instantly change the station based on the lyrics I heard. Quite frankly, I was embarrassed by the lyrics. I was embarrassed to say, "why, yes, I enjoy country music!"

Any song that says "God is great" immediately followed by "Beer is good" is just....I don't even know the word. That whole song is just stupid to me. I can't get passed the "God is great. Beer is good."

But the one that is reeeeeallly embarassing & oughtt to be banned----the song that includes the line: "I'd like to check you for ticks."
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-gads.
Gag me.
That makes my skin crawl & my stomach churn!
And really----imagine being a single gal again. {if you are a single gal & reading this, well then that's not too far of a stretch.} I could NOT imagine ANY GUY saying that to me. "Hey, baby. I'd like to check you for ticks."
Um...a whistling, drunk, homeless man would have had a better chance at getting a date w/ me than any guy who ever said "I'd like to check you for ticks."

So, to the rest of the world I say---don't judge country music by just a few songs, and if you do---certainly don't judge it by the two songs I mentioned!

...there really are some good country songs...

This Morning...

"twinkle, twinkle, little STAR,
how I wonder what you ARE.
up above the world so HIGH,
like a diamond in the SKY."

So, Gage said all of the words in caps...

How it sounded when Gage sang along:
"blah, ya, dabba, ulla STAR
la la blah blah da da ARE.
blah ya ya da lalo HIGH,
yabba di lo lo ya SKY."

Seriously, he was singing along with the tune.
I'm loving it.

First tune to sing/hum to but never got the words: Barney Theme Song...
First song to request on the radio: Ice Ice Baby (yes, he says "Ice Ice" & sings along, it's soooooo cute!)
Now, he's singing along to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

Oh, I love it!

Musical Meme...

So, I've been tagged by DenverDad (http://denverdad.blogspot.com) to list my 3 favorite songs.

Very difficult.

I have a habit of saying, "Oh, that's my favorite!"
Music---an area that is no exception. I have a TON of favorites!
So, are we talking all-time-faves, or my favorites of right now??? A favorite 3 for a certain type of music?? What are we talking here????

So...this is going to be very difficult to answer. But I will try. And, I am warning that these are my thoughts right now, and they are subject to change daily...or by the hour...or when the next song comes on!

1. Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding. [my mom probably guessed that one already]
I love that song. I've loved it since I was little. I will always love that song. Good times.

2. Pump Up the Volume by M.A.R.S. Don't hate on this one. It's long & has a great beat. I could shake my rump to that song forever, I think! (and by the way, "RumpShaker" almost made the top 3. Love the beat..."takin' it back to the old school 'cuz I'm an old fool who's so cool"...and yet again, I've quoted another 90's rap song...somebody break the cycle!)

3. This one is a tie:
Let Me Clear My Throat by D.J.Kool & Downtown by Petula Clark. Both of those songs just make me want to smile & dance!!!!!

Okay. I like waaaaaaaaaaaay more songs than this.
This was really hard.
I don't know if this adequately expresses my favorites....

And, what's funny: none of those are in my cd slots in the car.
Here's what is in my car as we speak:
1) Curious George Soundtrack (Thanks Melis!)
2) Jack Johnson & Ben Harper
3) Another Jack Johnson cd
4) Macy Gray
5) Cowboy Mouth
6) Lily Allen

And so....how it goes...apparently I have to tag 3 others...
So, I'll tag:

Random Music Bits.

It's no secret, I love Cowboy Mouth.

I have...3, maybe 4 of their CDs. Saw them in New Orleans back in the day. Fell in love. I saw them in Dallas. I just love so many of their songs. I think the lyrics are wildly funny, or incredibly applicable to life situations (depending on which song I'm listening to, of course), and the tunes are catchy.
In fact...when Gage was so little, and I was home with him...and mom had returned home, and Damon returned to work...and the days were long (at first) for me & Baby Gage...I couldnt remember a bunch of lyrics to kid songs, and certainly wasn't in the habit of listening to kid music (THEN)...so I would sing him Cowboy Mouth songs.
Thank goodness he couldnt understand some of the lyrics!
("What's an Irish boy from a good family doing in the gutter?...St.Peter said, 'You're Drunk As Hell! Son, You Shoulda Ate!' So he sent me back down to grab a bite, but instead I bought another! What's an Irish boy from a good family doing in the gutter?)
...catchy little tune. And humorous too.

Another band...
The Eli Young Band

They're playing in Fort Worth on Saturday night. Sadly, I wont be in attendance.
They're playing in College Station tonight. Um, wont be there either.
.......dammit........
It's been so long since I've attended a concert. I think the last one I went to was Tori Amos with Megan. We were in the very, very, very, very front. It was awesome!
...but I've strayed from the topic at hand.
The Eli Young Band. I have one of their songs on CD, but I have yet to purchase the whole album (what kind of fan am I, right?)
Anyway...my 2 favorite songs of theirs are "Everything is You" & "So Close Now".
Thanks to napster, I can hear them anytime I want...well, anytime at work when I am logged onto the computer. (okay, that's not really ANYTIME...but I still have yet to figure out the MP3 downloading thing. I'm slow. Cut me some slack!)

Okay...those are my musical tidbits for today.
