Trystan's 5th Birthday Party !!!

We went to Trystan's birthday party on Sunday.
He had a Power Ranger cake & a big Bounce House outside.

Trystan, opening the Chuck E. Cheese's gift certificates we got for him.

On his new bike! He's 5 and he rides without training wheels! (I'm so impressed!)

Gage, wearing Trystan's cowboy hat...

Gage loved that hat!
And...he picked a flower for me. It was his first time ever to pick & flower & bring it to me.
:)

And then there was this....

He just LOVES using the cup...and looking at the bottom of it, and not turning it upright before moving it away from his face, and pouring the contents of each & every cup onto the floor.

So yes, when we are "practicing" with a regular cup, or "learning" with a regular cup...he & I stand at the sink & I give him a drink, ONE SIP AT A TIME.
Or, I stand right there with him & teach him to turn the cup up, put the cup down, etc. He doesn't really like that because then---mommy's hands touch his cup. Unless mommy's hands are filling up the cup---mommy's not allowed to touch.

So...when do those "terrible twos" start?
17 months...is that too soon?

A friend of mine says she taught her kids to drink from a cup in the bathtub. She'd give them a cup of COLD water (not tub water, obviously) and let them drink. When they spilled, it was COLD and they quickly learned not to spill. She says it worked pretty well. I know one of her sons (he's in his 30s) and he seems to be able to drink from a cup without too much trouble... :)
