Life Is Just So Daily

I spanked my child today.

Today, Gage & I are not getting along.

He went down for a nap early....which means he had been in a bad mood earlier in the day....

He is just a limit tester.
He got a spanking....and then shouted, "don't hit me", which of course made me cry.
He then was crying about his "ouchy", and wanted me to kiss it (right where I spanked him).

UGH.

But you know, when I tell him 5 times not to do something, and he smiles & does it anyway----what the hell am I supposed to do?

Time out didn't work.
The "stern talking-to" didn't work.

He is a mess today, and I'm tired of it.
I can't wait for my husband to get home from work so I can get a break.

((((big hug))) ~ you and Gage will survive this...and you are not a bad mother. I know I had that experience when my oldest was around 2...and it breaks your heart because you are trying to teach life lessons and your wits become unstrung and you use force to make the point, knowing it isn't the way to go...and he knows that too. And then there are tears and apologies and you will come back together again...some time outs are good. And then you will be calm and you will figure out other ways to make him understand.

In the meantime, DO NOT beat yourself up over this...if you hit the child on a regular basis then yes, I'd say this is problematic. You reacted as many a parent does. Be kind to yourself and to him...tomorrow is another day.

((((HUGS!)))) Tomorrow will be better.

Have you read "1,2,3 Magic"? It worked wonders around here with our 4 boys...still have a few spankings, but much more listening than there was before. HTH!

Girl, we all get driven to the edge with our kids. You are not a bad mom, and Gage won't even remember what happened tomorrow. (((HUGS)))

I WANNA CRY FOR YOU RIGHT NOW BECAUSE SERIOUSLY CAN I JUST SAY I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL REALLY REALLY BRANDON HAS ME SO CLOSE TO MY LIMIT THAT ME THE MOST ANTI HITTING (SERIOUSLY I THINK HAND SMACKING IS ABUSE) ON THE VERGE OF JUST SMACKING HIM IN THE HEAD RIGHT NOW. IT TAKES EVERY SINGLE OUNCE OF CONTROL FOR ME NOT TO. HOWEVER, WHAT I HAVE STARTED DOING IS PUTTING HIM IN HIS ROOM WITH NO LIGHTS AND NO TV AND SHUTTING THE DOOR AND JUST LETTING HIM CRY IT OUT. AND LET ME TELL YOU NOTHING PISSES MY CHILD OFF MORE THEN LOSING HIS LIGHTS FOR SOME REASON. ANYWAY READING HOW YOUR SON REACTED IS GOING TO AT LEAST KEEP ME FROM LOSING MY CONTROL FOR A FEW MORE DAYS THANK YOU FOR SHARING. I'M HERE FOR YOU!

I'm sorry about that. One of our friends has a daughter around Gage's age and he said she is the exact same stage. She just has to test the limits. I know it has to be so frustrating right now. I hope the rest of your afternoon went better and you got a nice break when your husband got home.

Those days happen - don't be hard on yourself. Just be thankful they don't happen that often. I lost it plenty of times - and we all survived!

I feel like a public service announcement. I got spanked as a child (not a lot) but when I was misbehaving. Umm I survived and I don't hate my mom and after a few times I realized DUH maybe I should stop doing the things that get me a spanking. I don't hate my parents. Honestly I don't even remember the exact instances it happened. Dont' forget you are the parent and it's better to teach early in life that actions have conquences. BIG HUGS!!!

I agree with Patty's post above. I remember my three younger siblings (and myself:) just going and going until my mom was ready to break.

Sometimes it's the most effective way to get them focused on you again and make them think about what they're doing and that maybe, just MAYBE they should stop it. It certainly made me rething my actions a few times...and I still love my parents!

Looks like you got a lovely gift afterwards...great timing on your husbands part!

I read these posts backwards like reading the end of a book first, and I ruined the ending.

I am glad your day got better.

I have days like this too with my 2 year old. It can be very challenging. Tomorrow is a new day and I will be thinking about you guys.

I did that a few times. Sometimes you just have to or they get the idea that they are boss and then things really go downhill....

I know exactly how you feel. You get to that point where you have no clue what to do now because everything else hasn't worked and you give a spank. Then they make you feel so bad that you gave it to them that you question yourself and feel guilty. Why is parenting so damn hard?

I'm right here with you!

or you need a duplicate you...so that they can take the brunt of the disciplinary situations.

It is hard...I don't know if I know how old your son is, but if he is three, then I KNOW. I KNOW.

Here. Here is a hot cocoa with some peppermint schnops, drink up. :D

Parenting is so tough. Especially during this time of year. And especially with a 2 y.o. I think you're doing an excellent job.
